LoL is the most correlated sport on DraftKings โ which makes it one of the most beatable if you understand the format. Here's the 10-minute crash course: the roster, the scoring, the roles, and the handful of rules that separate winners from the field.

1 ยท The roster (it's captain mode)
Every DK League of Legends Classic lineup is 7 slots under a $50,000 cap:
Slot
What goes there
CPT (Captain)
Any player โ scores 1.5× points at 1.5× salary
TOP
Top laner
JNG
Jungler
MID
Mid laner
ADC
Bot-lane carry (AD Carry)
SUP
Support
TEAM
A team/org โ scores off objectives & the win
You must roster one of each position plus a team, and the captain is a separate slot on top. Two rules to remember: your lineup must include players from at least two different teams, and the player you put in the captain (multiplier) slot is your single biggest decision on the card.
2 ยท How scoring works
Players earn points from what they do in the game. The core values:
Stat
Points
Kill
+3
Assist
+2
Creep Score (per minion/monster)
+0.02
Death
โ1
10+ Kills or 10+ Assists (bonus)
+2
The TEAM slot scores off objectives โ towers, dragons, barons, first blood โ and the win. And the biggest swing of all: in a best-of-3 series, a 2-0 sweep pays a bonus to every player on the winning team. That single rule is why you hunt teams likely to win fast.
What this tells you: kills and assists are the currency, and they cluster on the winning team. A team that stomps racks up kills, assists, objectives, the win, and (in a Bo3) the sweep bonus โ all at once. A team that loses hands you deaths and almost nothing else.
3 ยท The roles โ where the points live
MID & ADC โ the carries. They hold the majority of a team's kills and damage. These are your best captains and your core studs. Pay up here.
Jungle โ the flex. Junglers roam the whole map and rack up assists setting up the carries. A jungler captain is the smart value move when you can't afford a carry in the multiplier.
Support โ the floor. Supports pile up assists (easy points) but rarely take kills, so they're a great cheap flex and a weak captain (their ceiling is capped).
Top โ the volatility. Lowest kill participation, highest variance. Usable in flex, but almost never your captain in a tournament.
Team โ the punt or the anchor. In best-of-3 it's worth paying up; in a single game it's a fine spot to save salary for another carry.
4 ยท Rule #1: stack winners, don't spread
This is the whole game. LoL is enormously correlated โ when a team wins, all its players score together. So you don't build "one from each team" like other sports. You stack. The standard construction is 4 players from one team and 3 from another โ and you build around the teams you expect to win.
Losing teams rarely pay off. A 5-point favorite in LoL terms isn't a coin flip โ the winner laps the loser in fantasy points. Identify the winners first; everything else is details.
5 ยท Correlation โ which pieces go together
ADC + Support โ they play the same lane and fight together. Highest-correlation pair in the game. Stack them.
Mid + Jungle โ junglers funnel kills to the mid laner. Classic pairing.
Jungle + anyone โ junglers roam, so they correlate with the whole team. Free to stack with any teammate.
Put it together and a clean build is: a carry captain, that carry's support, the jungler, another carry, and the team โ all correlated, all rising together if the game breaks your way.
6 ยท The captain โ this is where you win
The captain scores 1.5×, so it's the biggest single decision on your card, and the field spreads its captains thin. Two principles:
Captain a carry (MID or ADC) whenever you can afford it โ that's where the ceiling is. Drop to a jungler when you need the salary.
Find the leverage. If the whole field is buying a star in the flex spots but skipping him at captain, captaining him is free separation โ same player, a fraction of the ownership, 1.5× the points.
7 ยท The fades โ how you avoid finishing last
0-minute / benched players. If a player doesn't log a map, every slot tied to him is voided. Never roster a projected-zero body.
Losing-team pieces โ outside of a deliberate GPP upset stack, don't sprinkle in players from the team you expect to lose.
Top laners and supports at captain โ capped or volatile ceilings; keep them in flex.
Carbon-copy chalk โ if you jam the exact five most-owned players like everyone else, you have no leverage even if they score. Differentiate at the captain.
8 ยท Cash vs. GPP
In cash (50/50s, double-ups) you want the highest-floor build โ stack the clearest favorite, captain a safe carry or a value jungler, and don't get cute. In tournaments (GPP, multi-entry) you want leverage โ spread your captains across entries, take a shot on an underdog stack, and own the low-owned game scripts nobody else has.
The 60-second checklist
Pick the winners first โ favorites, and teams that can sweep a Bo3.
Stack 4-3 around those winners. Never spread.
Captain a carry (MID/ADC), or a jungler for value.
Pair ADC + support and mid + jungle for correlation.
Punt the team slot in single games; pay up in Bo3.
Never roster a 0-minute player.
In GPP, win the captain and take one underdog swing.
